BROSSARD, QC (January 8th, 2025) – Following its global unveiling in November, the all-new Hyundai IONIQ 9 will be presented to the Canadian press and public for the very first time at the Montreal International Auto Show.

This new all-electric three-row SUV will be presented to the media during the press day on Thursday, January 16, as well as to the public during the 10-day show, which will be held from January 17 to 26, 2024 at Montreal’s Palais des congrès.

“Hyundai has a long history of success in Quebec. Drivers and Hyundai dealers from La Belle Province have once again shown us their great confidence into our products in 2024, as we recorded a 29 per cent sales increase in Quebec compared to the previous year,” said Steve Flamand, executive director of sales and digital strategy at Hyundai Auto Canada. “With the incredible success of our Hyundai electric vehicles in Quebec, it just made sense for us to be in Montreal for the national unveiling of the new IONIQ 9, whose arrival represents a new milestone in our transition to an electrified future.”

The 2026 IONIQ 9, an electric SUV ready for your next adventure

The IONIQ 9, demonstrating Hyundai Motor’s unwavering commitment to electrification, will play a key role in the company’s target to offer a full lineup of 23 EV models by 2030. Following IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6, both triple winners at the World Car of the Year Awards in 2022 and 2023 respectively, IONIQ 9 will build on this legacy of electrification excellence.

With the longest wheelbase of any Hyundai model, at 3,130 mm, IONIQ 9 impresses with its expansive cabin and grand proportions. The pure volume of the body and fenders create an imposing impression, while intricately designed accents add depth and dimension. The flowing rear wheel arch character line emphasizes the vehicle’s unique volumes and contributes to its dynamic design.

IONIQ 9 is underpinned by Hyundai Motor’s innovative E-GMP architecture, which enhanced PE system, with an optimized gear ratio for hill climbing and the application of a two-stage inverter for improved efficiency.

The advanced PE system’s high-voltage, floor-mounted NCM lithium-ion battery offers 110.3 kWh of system energy. The Long-Range RWD model is powered by a 160 kW rear motor, the Long-Range AWD alternative features an additional 70 kW front motor, while the Performance AWD models boast 160 kW motors at both the front and rear.

Energy usage efficiency is also enhanced by smoothing and balancing airflow under the body, and reduced wheel and tire resistance. To address these needs, a new dual-motion active air flap (AAF) system has been applied for the first time. Other aero-optimizing solutions include a 3D-shaped underbody cover, aerodynamic wheels and hidden antennas.

With the third-row seats folded flat, the trunk can accommodate up to 1,323 litres of luggage, while with all three rows in place IONIQ 9 offers up to 620 litres of luggage room2. Additionally, the front trunk offers a maximum volume of 88 litres for RWD models and 52 litres for AWD models.

The IONIQ 9’s panoramic curved display3, floating dashboard, slim air vents and ambient interior lighting further enhance the vehicle’s futuristic interior atmosphere.

The 2026 Hyundai IONIQ 9 will be available at Canadian dealerships in spring 2025. To learn more about the 2026 IONIQ 9, click here.

One-million-kilometre Elantra

Auto shows usually feature the latest innovations in the automotive industry. This year, Hyundai decided to do things differently by showcasing a 2008 Elantra that has traveled more than a million kilometres.

In partnership with TV show Roulez au Suivant, this Elantra underwent an exhaustive restoration project. As part of this ambitious challenge, Hyundai Canada donated more than a hundred parts to allow for the most complete restoration possible.

The fabled 2008 Elantra is now difficult to recognize under its “Performance Blue” bodywork, available exclusively with Hyundai’s “N” performance models, but applied to this vehicle in homage to Hyundai’s performance division. The Elantra is now happily being driven by its new owner, a young driving enthusiast who intends to continue racking up the kilometres behind the wheel
